The Empathy Quotient – 40 item version (EQ-40) is a self-report tool to assess empathy in adults (18 years of age and older). The EQ-40 (Baron-Cohen & Wheelwright, 2004) assesses various aspects of empathy and three subscales are included:
Cognitive Empathy (understanding others’ thoughts, feelings and perspectives)
Emotional Empathy (attunement to others’ emotions)
Social Skills (interacting effectively with others).
The Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (OLBI) is a 16-item scale designed to measure burnout across adults employed in various occupational settings. The OLBI measures both physical and cognitive aspects of burnout as well as disengagement from work.
The Appearance Anxiety Inventory (AAI) is a 10 question self-report scale that measures the cognitive and behavioural aspects of body image anxiety in general, and body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) in particular. Appropriate for use with adults and adolescents as young as thirteen, the brief nature of the AAI can provide a quick snapshot of symptom severity to assist in the initial assessment and to monitor treatment progress over time.
The Automatic Thoughts Questionnaire – Believability (ATQ-B-15) (Netemeyer et al., 2002) is a 15-item self-report measure designed to assess the degree of believability of cognitions associated with depression. The scale does not measure the frequency of unhelpful thoughts, but rather measures the extent to which the client believes the thoughts to be true.

The Brief Experiential Avoidance Questionnaire (BEAQ) assesses an individual’s tendency to avoid uncomfortable emotions, thoughts, memories, or sensations (Gámez et al., 2014).
